The FIELD and the FLOCK principle – How to live above the economic recession in Nigeria
Welcome back to my thoughts on Economic Recession in Nigeria, this is my second thought, if you probably haven’t read the first, it is advisable you do. Read here
We were able to discover the lesson Nigeria must learn from this economic recession going forward. Here is the catch, Nigeria being broke goes a long to make you broke because you are Nigeria – I’ll explain that better as we journey.
Truth be told – Nigeria is not hitting out of economic recession soon, it won’t happen in 2017. I personally give it a minimum of 3 years, have I also become another prophet of doom? The recovery from recession can only happen when infrastructures that can drive the economy is provided. I don’t see this current administration doing anything about it. We have been told that if we increase spending then we are on our way out, it is not true! Our government told us to buy “Naija”, the question is what are we producing? Toothpick? – probably not. Until we learn to start producing instead of consuming we will still be far from creating wealth.
I’m glad to say this; it is a tough time that comes with great opportunities for those who will learn and take chances and look for opportunities like me. Millions in Nigeria are seeing economic recession while some few are seeing opportunities.
I got the Field and Flock concept from my favorite book – The Holy Book. It’s a famous and interesting story – let me engage you:
Now it came to pass, when Isaac was old and his eyes were so dim that he could not see, that he called Esau his older son and said to him, “My son.”
And he answered him, “Here I am.”
Then he said, “Behold now, I am old. I do not know the day of my death. Now therefore, please take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me. And make me savory food, such as I love, and bring it to me that I may eat, that my soul may bless you before I die.”
Now Rebekah was listening when Isaac spoke to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt game and to bring it. So Rebekah spoke to Jacob her son, saying, “Indeed I heard your father speak to Esau your brother, saying, ‘Bring me game and make savory food for me, that I may eat it and bless you in the presence of the Lord before my death.’ Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to what I command you. Go now to the flock and bring me from there two choice kids of the goats, and I will make savory food from them for your father, such as he loves. Then you shall take it to your father, that he may eat it, and that he may bless you before his death. Read the detailed story
Most Christians are familiar with this story – I’ll advise you ignore what you know about this story and see something different from it. My emphases will major on these two icons field and flock as used in the story. The field concept is synonymous with Esau while the Flock with Jacob, let’s see how it relates with economic recession.
Here is how I saw it. There was an urgent need for meat, two brothers needed to produce meat, it took one of the brothers a whole day while the other few hours. Now, what could be the reason for the huge difference in delivery time? It’s simple; one went to the flock and the other to the field.
I relate the “deficient” field concept to fixed income “30 days make a pay” – salary, I relate flock concept to business, investment or having passive income. I’ll do a thorough break-down of these concepts in my next post – it gets more interesting I must tell you. I do not need to tell you that you that you have that it will be worth the read.
No government in any part of the world has been responsible to create jobs or employment for its people; entrepreneurs do. And for us to get out of economic recession we must think economic revolution.
