Wealth creation can be attained when there is good use of the “negotiation power”. The flock principle is everything while the flock principle is not an option.
Hi, I’m glad you are reading this. I sincerely hope you have been with me on the journey from my first thought, in case you haven’t it can never be too late. I advise you strongly read previous posts before continuing – they will give meaning to this post – read previous posts here.
The wealth creator and entrepreneurial guru pulled the stunt again, and I want to share how he did it with you. This will be of great relevant to those on the field level trying to change to the flock level. Just read how the boss did it again, but before then let’s take a brief moment reading the interesting story:
And it came to pass, when Rachel had borne Joseph that Jacob said to Laban, “Send me away, that I may go to my own place and to my country. Give me my wives and my children for whom I have served you, and let me go; for you know my service which I have done for you.” And Laban said to him, “Please stay; if I have found favor in your eyes, for I have learned by experience that the Lord has blessed me for your sake.” Then he said, “Name me your wages, and I will give it.” So Jacob said to him, “You know how I have served you and how your livestock has been with me. For what you had before I came was little, and it has increased to a great amount; the Lord has blessed you since my coming. And now, when shall I also provide for my own house?“
So he said, “What shall I give you?”
And Jacob said, “You shall not give me anything. If you will do this thing for me, I will again feed and keep your flocks: Let me pass through all your flock today, removing from there all the speckled and spotted sheep, and all the brown ones among the lambs, and the spotted and speckled among the goats; and these shall be my wages. So my righteousness will answer for me in time to come, when the subject of my wages comes before you: every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and brown among the lambs, will be considered stolen, if it is with me.”
And Laban said, “Oh that it was according to your word!”
From the story, this is what I saw again:
Jacob hit recession when he had to leave his house to save his life as his brother sought to kill him. So he ran far away to his uncle who enrolled him in his business as a staff. Jacob was so good with the work that he was promoted to be the manager of company – yet he had nothing! Yet he still lived with his uncle, he couldn’t even afford a house of himself. He was broke, for several years he thought things will get better, rather it got worse. Yet his uncle got richer and prospered, he knew he needed wealth creation.
Jacob knew he couldn’t keep working and make any meaning with his life, so he considered quitting his job – this is a point many get to, but refuse to make the decision to quit. His boss refused him, he knew Jacob was all his business needs to grow – the truth is every business owner knows value added from waste. Here was the big one – The boss asked: Name your wage! At this point every business owner will be ready to re-negotiate with great employees; this is where many also fail – just because of the lucrative offer. Jacob knew the field concept is not the best tool to wealth creation.
If we consider the offer the boss gave Jacob, it was huge! Many will take advantage of that to double their pay – it just makes sense to the common ear. To Jacob turned it was a NO! I do not want a salary scheme anymore, he proposed to become a partner – a co-owner! Nothing more.
We have to learn from this. In my workplace we have staffs that are paid 30k in a month, they work Monday to Saturday like me believing someday the pay will become better, in the same office we have people who were once staffs and now a sub-agents, all they do is sell for the company and get commission. They believe somehow they can pull deals through, and they make millions doing that. That is the difference between the field and the flock concept. Personally I have gotten to that point where I know I also need to be an agent to my workplace and not just a mere staff.
Jacob learnt negotiation power to be the tool to wealth creation. Despite the switch, he still did not find wealth creation easy – his boss did all he could to ensure Jacob never created wealth – join me in the next and perhaps the wrap of my thoughts on how to live above economic recession in Nigeria, as we take a close look at how this man turned the table around.
